About Money Map Makers
Money Map Makers is an independent resource for travelers planning international trips. We focus on one problem: it is genuinely hard to know what a trip abroad will cost before you book anything. Flight prices swing by the week, lodging rates vary by neighborhood, and daily costs like food and local transportation depend on habits that are easy to underestimate.
Our goal is to help you build a realistic budget before you commit money to flights, lodging, or activities — not after you have already overspent. Every guide on this site is built around a single question: what does this specific part of a trip typically cost, and how should a traveler plan around it?
What we do
We publish two types of content. The first is our trip budget calculator, a tool that turns your trip details — travelers, trip length, travel style, and a handful of category choices — into an estimated total, a per-person cost, a daily average, and a category-by-category breakdown. The second is our library of guides, organized into nine categories covering budgeting basics, flights and transportation, lodging, food, local transportation, destination cost patterns, trip length and itineraries, traveler-profile budgeting, and saving and preparation.
What we do not do
Money Map Makers does not offer investment advice, credit products, loans, or any kind of financial planning service. We are not a bank, a lender, or a financial advisor, and nothing on this site should be read as financial advice. Our scope is limited to estimating and planning the cost of international travel.
How our estimates are built
Every number on this site is presented as an estimate, not a guarantee. We build our cost ranges from patterns in publicly available information — published fare and fee schedules, national tourism board cost guidance, government travel resources, and general cost-of-living patterns by region — and we update our guides periodically as those patterns shift. The full explanation of how we build and maintain estimates lives on our Methodology & Sources page.
Who writes our guides
Content on Money Map Makers is produced and maintained under the byline of the Money Map Makers Editorial Team, following the standards described in our Editorial Policy. If you spot something that looks outdated or incorrect, our Corrections Policy explains how we handle fixes, and our Contact page explains how to reach us.
